A paedophile couple who moved to Dundee after “destroying” a young boy’s life in Liverpool have been handed a combined sentence of more than 19 years.
Predators Michael Riley and Jason Millar, of Strathmartine Road, plied the teenager with cocaine and alcohol before taking turns abusing him at their previous home in Walton.
The truth emerged when he told a friend he felt suicidal and that someone “had been messing with him.”
Martine Snowden, prosecuting at Liverpool Crown Court, said: “Police officers asked him why he kept going back to the address if these sexual things were happening, and he explained that they had told him if he didn’t come and stay that they would tell his mum and social services that he’d been drinking and taking cocaine and that he expected social services would take him from his mother.
“He said they took pictures of them sniffing cocaine off his body and said if he told anyone they would share the pictures with everyone.”
In a harrowing victim personal statement, the boy’s mum told the court: “At the moment he cannot see a future. He has no plans and he is a broken child.”
Stuart Mills, defending Riley, told the court his client had written a letter in which he apologised for “all the hurt and pain” he has caused.
Brendan Carville, representing Millar, said his client “bitterly regrets” his behaviour and played a “secondary role” to his boyfriend.
31-year-old Riley was jailed for 10 years and nine months and Millar, 44, for nine years after pleading guilty to causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Both men were banned from any unsupervised contact with a boy under 16 and were put on the sex offenders’ register for life.
