Dundee Rep actress Irene Macdougall has been nominated for one of Scotland’s most prestigious theatre awards.
The Ensemble actress has been nominated for Best Female Performance for her role as Kate Keller in All My Sons in the Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland (Cats) 2019.
The Rep is also nominated in the Best Design category for The Dark Carnival, a Vanishing Point production that was presented in partnership with The Rep.
Perth Theatre at Horsecross is in the running for four awards thanks to Ian Brown’s production of Morna Young’s Lost at Sea. It is nominated for best ensemble, best director, best design and best use of sound and music.
Another groundbreaking show coming to Dundee Rep later this month has been nominated in six categories, including Best Production.
My Left Foot – The Musical is produced by Birds of Paradise, Scotland’s only professional, disability-led arts organisation,
The production, which satirises the Oscar-winning Christy Brown biopic My Left Foot, has just had its international premiere at the World Theatre Festival in Japan and will be performed in Dundee from May 21-25.
Bird of Paradise controversially had its funding cut by Creative Scotland last year although this was later reinstated.
Co-convener of Cats Joyce McMillan said: “The initial decision to cut regular funding for Birds of Paradise seemed out of tune with Creative Scotland’s commitment to supporting arts that are by and for everyone.
“Theatre should be inclusive, and this great show demonstrates how Birds of Paradise have become a vital part of Scotland’s theatre scene over the last 25 years…”
