The V&A Museum effect is being hailed for an upsurge in council car park use.
Dundee City Council has released figures showing the number of vehicles using the city’s multi-storey car parks in last month rose by 3,617 from the corresponding period last year.
This comes despite the council shaking up parking prices earlier this year, including some increases.
The biggest rise in usage was at the Greenmarket multi-storey – closest to the V&A – which rose 2,242 from 9,665 to 11,907.
Councillor Mark Flynn, deputy convener of the council’s city development committee, said: “Occupancy rates at our pay on foot car parks have gone up by 7.3% when compared with the same period last year.

“Greenmarket has been the best performer with more than 2,200 additional vehicles using it in April this year compared with the same month in 2018.
“This is likely to be because it is the nearest of our multi-storey car parks to the V&A.
“The small decreases at both Olympia and Gellatly Street have been absorbed by a stronger performance across the rest of the multi-storeys.
“All of our multi-storey car parks are accredited with the Park Mark standard which means they are regularly inspected to ensure that they are properly managed and maintained.”
In the Gellaty Street multi-storey 16,559 motorists parked in April 2018 compared to 15,338 in April of this year.
While at West Bell Street 11,932 people parked in April 2018 and 12,232 in April 2019 while at the Olympia multi-storey 6,637 parked in April 2018 compared to 6,399 in April 2019.
The Shore Terrace multi-storey car park saw 4,761 drivers park in April 2018 and 7,295 in April this year.
In total 53,171 motorists parked in the city’s multi-storeys in April 2019 which is a rise of 3,617 on the 49,554 users in April 2018.
