A manhunt has been launched after a “good Samaritan” OAP was assaulted and robbed on a Dundee street.
It is understood the 72-year-old gave a lift to a man and a woman in the early hours of Sunday – but the duo then turned on him and robbed him of his belongings.
The pensioner was taken to hospital following the incident, which happened at around 2.15am on Dundonald Street.
Police have launched an investigation into the robbery, with the victim’s granddaughter also taking to social media to appeal for information.
She reported that the OAP was left with a broken jaw, cuts and bruises following the assault.
The thugs were said to have taken his Samsung mobile, wallet, £180 in cash, bank cards, house and car keys.
A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland is investigating an alleged robbery which took place about 2.15am on May 26 in Dundonald Street, Dundee.
“A 72-year-old man was assaulted and had items stolen from him by a man and a woman.
“He was taken to hospital for treatment but was not seriously injured.
“Officers are following positive lines of enquiry and would ask anyone with any information that could assist the investigation to call 101, or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.”
The reference for reporting information is incident 0650 of May 26.
Lyndsay Hansen, the pensioner’s granddaughter, has had her post go viral with nearly 300 shares and more than 60 comments.
She said: “Early hours of Sunday morning my grandad (sic) was assaulted, his jaw is broken also cuts and lots of bruising.
“He gave a couple a lift and the male refused to leave his car hes (sic) asked him several times to leave the car the male became aggressive and assaulted my grandfather.
“Robbed him of all his belongings.
“I don’t have much money but I will give a small reward for the names of these people.”
