A thief who used a hammer to break into a Dundee hairdressing salon was chased away by neighbours.
The man broke into Gary Wightman Hairdressing on Constitution Road around 11.50pm on Monday night by smashing a window with the hammer.
He stole two pairs of GHD straighteners before people living in neighbouring flats chased him away by shouting at him.
The thief was seen to run off along Salem Street towards the Hilltown.
Staff at Gary Wightman Hairdressing took to Facebook to break the news, and thanked customers for making them aware of the incident.
The post read: “So someone tried to break into the salon tonight. Luckily not much was taken. Thank you to all my lovely clients who called to let me know what had happened.”
Photos posted show how the thief smashed a hole through the front window of the salon.
Police investigating the break-in said the man was in his 20s and of medium to large build.
He was wearing a dark hooded top, light grey bottoms and was carrying a dark rucksack or tool bag.
Customers have posted messages of support to the salon on social media.
Lynn Stewart said: “That’s horrible Gary, hope someone catches them from any CCTV that’s around.”
Georgia Jane added: “Jesus that’s appalling! Disgusting behaviour.”
