A 22-year-old man broke his back after falling from the window of his flat on the second floor of a Dundee tenement.
It is understood he had locked himself out of the property and slipped as he tried to climb from the balcony outside his front door to an open window.
Emergency services rushed to McGill Street in Stobswell shortly after 9am yesterday following the incident.
Taxi drivers parked at the rank opposite the flat rushed to the man’s aid after seeing him fall.
It is believed the man had tried to reach a window from the balcony on the second-floor of the tenement but slipped and fell to the ground.
As well as a broken back, he sustained a broken pelvis, collar bone and leg injuries.
Taxi driver Gary Middleton, 37, said: “My friend David Balfour saw him fall from the window and I heard the crash.
“We ran around the corner to see what condition they were in. We didn’t know if it was a man or a woman.
“When we got there it looked like he was trying to get away from the scene.
“I don’t know whether it was the adrenaline or the shock that had kicked in but he was trying to put weight on his ankle but couldn’t.
“I phoned the ambulance and they were telling me over the phone what to say to him. I was asking him not to move and to wait for help.
“The ambulance was there pretty sharpish and the police came after.
“You see a lot as a taxi driver but it was a shock to the system.”
Fellow taxi driver Gary Craddock also saw the aftermath of the accident.
He said: “I just saw something out of the corner of my eye.
“I then saw one of the guys parked behind me get out and run towards the garden. He ran back for his phone to call the ambulance and when I asked what happened he said someone had fallen.
“I heard screaming and moaning then I saw his two hands up on the wall as he pulled himself up.
“His face was covered in blood then he came out on to the street.
“It looked like his leg was bending the wrong way.”
McGill Street was closed by police following the accident.
