Paramedics were called to Clifden Blue Court in Whitfield’s Dunbar Park estate at around 10am on Wednesday.
Paramedics were called to Clifden Blue Court in Whitfield’s Dunbar Park estate at around 10am on Wednesday.

Police launched three separate sudden death probes in the same day in Dundee.

Three people died in unrelated incidents in the city on Wednesday.

Police watchdog the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (Pirc) is examining the force’s involvement in one of the deaths.

Officers were called to the city’s Charleston area at about 6.45pm on Wednesday following concern for a woman in her 50s.

She was said to be injured and was taken to Ninewells Hospital where she later died.

The incident is not said to be suspicious but it has been referred to the (Pirc) who are also investigating the circumstances leading up to the woman’s death.

It is understood the woman had struggled with paramedics and police who came to her aid.

Police have not confirmed the address where the woman was found.

A statement from the force reads: “Police Scotland attended an address in the Charleston area of Dundee at around 6.45pm on Wednesday June 26 following concern being reported for an injured woman in her 50s.‎

“She was taken to Ninewells Hospital where she sadly died. Inquiries are ongoing into the incident, but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.

“Police Scotland has referred the incident to Pirc for review, and therefore no further comment can be provided.”

Tayside Police Division say they will not be commenting any further.

A spokeswoman for Pirc’s investigations team said: “We are investigating the circumstances leading up to the death of a woman in Dundee on Wednesday 26 June 2019.

“Police attended following reports of an injured woman in her 50s. She later died at Ninewells Hospital.

“As is standard procedure, the incident was referred to us by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and our report will be submitted to them in due course.”

One resident said: “There are still police in the block.

“There were two smaller medical vehicles and an ambulance here as well as about eight police officers.”

Another added: “The street was cordoned off from around 6pm.”

Another woman’s body was found in a property in Dallfield Court at around 10.30pm on Wednesday.

Two other deaths in city

Police are investigating two other deaths in Dundee this week.

A number of officers, including CID, were in Dallfield Court yesterday after a woman’s body was found on Wednesday night.

One witness said emergency services had been in the area from around 10.30pm on Wednesday before it was confirmed a woman had died.

He said: “From what I have heard from other tenants there had been concerns for the woman’s wellbeing.

“It was someone from one of the other blocks who raised the alarm before the emergency services arrived.

“I came past shortly after 11pm and noticed the police and the ambulance crews on the scene.

“There were two police officers that I could see around that time.

“It’s tragic that another person has lost their life at such a young age.

“I was told she was only 43.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed a woman’s body was found after officers gained entry to one of the flats near the main entrance.

The police spokesman added: “Officers attended an address on Dallfield Court at around 10.30pm on Wednesday in response to concerns raised for a resident.

“Entry was gained and the body of a woman in her 40s was found within.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.”

It was the second discovery of a body in Dundee on Wednesday after a male was found at a property in Clifden Blue Court, Ballumbie.

A police spokesman said: “The death is being treated as unexplained, and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”

Paramedics were called to the flat at around 10am following reports of concern for a resident.

They had to request the assistance of police with riot shields and council dog wardens after coming up against a dog in the property.

Waiting paramedics were able to enter the property when the dog had been removed.
