Safety warnings are to be issued on an “unsafe” closed bridge after reports of people climbing over fencing to cross it.
The viaduct in Finlathen was shut earlier this month amid safety concerns.
Barriers were erected as one of the walls appeared to be subsiding.
At the time, a Dundee City Council spokesman said it would be closed “for the next few days” as an investigation took place. However, more than a week later, the barriers are still up.
Residents, fed up of having extra time added to their journey, have taken to climbing over, or knocking down, the fencing to cross the bridge.
A video has emerged of a young male brazenly waving to people filming him after he climbed the barriers to access the bridge.
One dog walker said they have seen similar things happening almost every day since the barriers went up.
The woman said: “One day there were four of the fences knocked down. People don’t seem to care about the fact that it’s closed for a reason.
“I’ve been shouting at people, asking them if they know what they’re doing is illegal but they never take notice.”
Local resident, Jane Barr, had an extra half hour added to her daily walk to her Fintry job. She has also witnessed people breaking through the barriers to get to the bridge on an almost daily basis.
“Adults and kids are paying no attention to the barriers,” she said.
“They’re either climbing over or taking the fence apart. I’ve seen no workmen there though, but they must pop back most days as the barriers are often redone the next day.
“It’s crazy. You don’t need to be a specialist to tell it’s unsafe, but I’m thinking that’s the appeal to some.”
Another nearby resident said the condition of the wall seems to have worsened since the bridge’s closure.
A council spokesman confirmed officials are still investigating the bridge structure, and assessing how safe it is.
“We will be putting up signs warning the public it is closed,” the spokesman added.
The bridge was built by Dundee Water Company in around 1844 as part of a pipeline to bring water from Monikie Burn to Stobsmuir Reservoir, next to Stobswell Ponds.
