Almost 2,000 people packed out Lochee Park on Saturday to sing along to some of the world’s most famous songs — all performed by tribute bands.
With headliners The Stones, Flash, and Duran, the 11-hour Fake Festival was again a massive hit with locals who appeared to enjoy the substitutes as much as the real thing.
Now in its third year in the city, the family-friendly touring event sees performers mimic the style, dress and attitude of a range of the world’s best-known bands for a fraction of the price.
Jez Lee, festival organiser at Fake Festivals, said putting on the show in Dundee is always enjoyable.
He said: “My personal favourite last night were the Rolling Stones tribute who were brilliant.
“They were on at 8pm just before Queen so it set-up the final performance perfectly.
“Queen are always a favourite of course. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a crowd sing-along as loud as they did on Saturday to their hits.
“It was amazing. Everyone got stuck in and it was a great atmosphere.
“Everything went fine and the crowd were great.”
Mr Lee added that the 1800 crowd was again a sell-out but despite that, the company have no plans to expand the event.
He said: “Our licence is always for the same number of people so we won’t make it any bigger.
“We were competing this year with quite a few other events so we’re really happy that it’s proved so popular again.
“Rewind Festival just up the road in Perth obviously draws in the crowds but people seemed keen to still get along to Lochee Park.
“We’re already looking forward to bringing it back to Dundee now after the third year here.”
Other bands to feature this year include The Jam’d and New2.
Last year’s Dundee event featured Kazabian, The Fillers, Guns2Roses, Blondied, The Really Hot Chili Peppers and Alladinsane – a tribute to David Bowie.
The line up had doubled from its inaugural event in 2017.
The company also puts on the sold-out Big Fake Festival, which takes place over three days in Thoresby Park, Nottinghamshire at the end of August.
