Shocked witnesses saw a man repeatedly punch a woman in the face in Dundee city centre.
The incident occurred near to the Old Mill Complex on Brown Street around 6.50pm on Sunday.
A man was seen to punch a woman in the face numerous times during the course of what appeared to be an argument.
The incident was reported to police by a concerned independent witness.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We have not yet been contacted by the victim, and would like to trace her to ensure her well-being, and to deal with the assault she was subjected to.”
The victim is described as white and in her 30s. She has brown hair and was wearing a pale or light gold-coloured dress at the time of the incident.
Her attacker is described as a white male aged between 30 and 35. He was wearing a white shirt and grey trousers.
Police said their clothing suggested they had both attended a function earlier in the day.
Following the incident they headed off towards West Marketgait.
