Armed robbers injured a 60-year-old shopper during a smash-and-grab raid on a Dundee jewellers.
The gang of four men threatened staff in Walkers Luxury Jewellers with weapons before making off with a jewellery worth a five-figure sum just before 11am on Monday.
Stunned witnesses saw smoke billowing from Walkers Luxury Jewellers after the robbery.
The raiders then made their escape from the scene in white Ford Kuga, which they are believed to have later dumped and swapped for a black Seat.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the male customer was taken to Ninewells Hospital, where he was treated for a head injury and later released.
The four members of staff within the shop were left shaken but unhurt.
Evidence of the robbery was clearly visible in the immediate aftermath of the raid.
One window displayed had been completely emptied.
The thieves had also attempted to break their way into a window display full of Rolex watches – some selling for as much as £29,000 – from inside the shop.
Shattered glass was visible in the display, as well as a large crack in the glass where attempts had been made to break into it.
Store director David Little said later: “Everybody is shaken. There is an ongoing police investigation.”
Gary Moore, who works in Assai Records opposite the jewellery store, said: “About 10.30 or 11 o’clock a lot of smoke came out.
“Then a short time later the police all piled in.”
Police said one of the suspects was dropped off in Union Street shortly before the robbery.
He is described as being in his 20s to 30s and had dark-coloured hair.
He was wearing a white shirt with black trousers and a navy hooded top with a red band across the chest. He walked into the shop and was then joined by another three suspects who were wearing dark-coloured clothing and had their faces covered.
Detective Inspector Gavin McKinlay of Police Scotland’s Tayside Division said: “The white Ford Kuga involved in this robbery has the registration number MJ62 DLK, and it was seen in the Union Street area before the robbery took place.
“It was last seen after the robbery driving at speed in Shore Terrace. It may have been abandoned locally, so anyone with information on its whereabouts is asked to come forward to officers.”
DI McKinlay added: “I believe that the suspects then changed vehicles to a black new-style Seat Leon Cupra bearing the registration number MD19 CVV.
“This is not the vehicle’s original number plates, but we are working to establish where this car then headed to. Anyone with information on the Seat vehicle is urged to contact us.”
He added that anyone who was in the area at the time to speak to detectives as they may have witnessed “something vital” to the inquiry. DI McKinlay also asked for drivers to share any dashcam footage they may have.
Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident.
