A man was rushed to hospital after being found with serious injuries on Wednesday night on Dundee’s Perth Road.
The man was found bleeding at around 11pm on on the busy thoroughfare outside the Balaka Indian restaurant.
Police say his injuries are “not life-threatening” but that they are currently investigating the full circumstances.
A cordon and two small tents could be seen on Thursday morning on the pavement with a police car stationed close by.
Workers in the adjacent hairdressers said a section of the road was closed off at midnight from the junction with St Peter Street.
A resident who lives on Thomson Street said she was startled by blue lights but did not hear or see anything prior to that, while another Perth Road resident said she saw the man taken away in an ambulance.
Police Scotland detective inspector Paul Boath appealed for witnesses.
He said: “Police were called to the St Peter Street area of Dundee at around 11pm on Wednesday 25 September after a man was found injured in the street.
“He was taken to Ninewells Hospital where he was treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries and enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.
“Anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and has information that could assist with our enquiries is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 4206 of 25 September.”
