A Tayside businessman found near his car after a five-hour drinking session has been banned from getting behind the wheel.
Ian Hosea tried to make the two-mile journey to a friend’s house following an afternoon drinking but came to grief on a back road north of Dundee.
The 38-year-old has been given an interim disqualification while reports are prepared, with a sheriff considering putting him on an electronic tag.
Hosea of Craigmill Road, Bridgefoot, appeared before Sheriff Keith O’Mahoney at Forfar Sheriff Court.
He pled guilty to driving on the U325 Bridgefoot to Templeton road on August 14 with a breath alcohol reading of 132 microgrammes – exactly six times the legal limit of 22.
The court heard police received a report of a single vehicle road accident and came across the accused at the side of the road.
Defence solicitor Nick Markowski said his client was employed in the family leisure and tourism business and had been working that day.
“He had been drinking from 3 to 8pm and had fallen asleep. He decided to go to a friend’s house about two miles away, but only got about one and a half miles.”
Sheriff O’Mahony deferred sentence until November 7.
He imposed an interim disqualification adding: “On that basis you cannot drive away from court today.”
