Police investigating reports of a man seen brandishing a machete and threatening members of the public in Glenrothes on Tuesday evening, say they are following “a positive line of enquiry”.
Police cordoned off streets around Cadham shopping precinct close to Huntsman’s Road just after 6pm yesterday evening after members of the public raised the alarm.
One eyewitness said they saw a male shouting and waving a machete or similar large knife at Cadham shops.
They added: “Police were everywhere, the place was in lock down with officers advising residents not to leave their homes.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police in Fife were called to the Cadham area of Glenrothes at around 6pm on Tuesday, October 15 following a report of a man in possession of a knife.
“Officers attended and conducted a thorough search of the area.
“No weapon was recovered and there were no reports of any injuries.
“Officers are following a positive line of enquiry.”
