Scottish Water is working to restore normal service to customers in the Crossgates area who have been affected by a loss of normal water supply, low water pressure or discoloured water.
The local school and nursery was forced to close early on Thursday as a result of the problems, which has affected around 1,400 properties in Crossgates, Fordell and Coaledge.
Engineers say the loss of supply was caused by an “operational issue” on its local water mains network late on Wednesday night.
A spokesperson added: “We are working to restore supplies as quickly as possible by altering the network and tankering water in.
“We apologise for any inconvenience to customers and thank them for their patience and understanding while we work to resolve the issue.
“When the water is restored affected customers might experience some discoloured water.
“If so, they should run the cold tap at a steady flow in their kitchen until it runs clear.”
