A motorcyclist was seriously injured and another taken to hospital in two separate accident on Fife roads on Tuesday morning.
Police closed two major arterial roads and set up local diversions following the accidents which caused traffic mayhem for commuters and triggered a number of cancellations to public transport.
A spokesman for Police Scotland, said: “Officers were alerted at 8.15am to a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a car.
“The road remained closed for around an hour to allow for emergency services to attend to those involved.
“The male motorcyclist was taken to Victoria Hospital with leg injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.”
The woman is in a stable condition in Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed: “Officers received a call at 7.30am to a road traffic collision on the A915 Standing Stane Road involving two vehicles close to Wellsgreen.
“Police and paramedics attended the scene and a female motorist was attended to at the scene before being taken to hospital.”
The road was closed for around two hours causing severe congestion as local diversions were put in place.
The road closures also had a huge knock-on effect for public transport. Stagecoach cancelled a number of its bus services and while others were subject to delays.
Meanwhile, the closure of Standing Stane Road, coupled with overnight flooding in the area, meant that contingency plans had to be put in place at Levenmouth Academy after the school reported 40 of its teaching staff were left stranded in the the surrounding road grid-lock.
A spokesman for the school, said: “Levenmouth Academy opened as normal.
“We immediately put procedures in place and all our young people have been cared for after 40 members of staff were stranded due to the accident.”
