Emergency services raced to flats in Glenrothes this evening for what turned out to be a false alarm, and not a chemical scare.
Crews from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police Scotland and ambulances were reported by eyewitnesses in the town’s Canmore Road in the early evening.
An SFRS spokesperson confirmed that the service did attend the street, but the call-out eventually proved to be a false alarm.
He said: “SFRS were called when a resident in the street reported being able to smell a chemical, thought to be paint thinner.
“SFRS crews attended and confirmed there were no hazardous chemicals in the area.”
The smell was later revealed to be paint.
One appliance remained at the scene later in the evening. Police Scotland also rushed to the scene after being contacted by SFRS.
A spokesman said: “Police were contaced by SFRS at about 5pm and attended Canmore Street in Glenrothes.”
