Neighbours say they are still in the dark over what happened to a 97-year-old woman whose death is being probed by police.
Annie Temple, also known as Nan, was found dead in her Kinglassie home on October 25.
Several days later, an investigation was launched and her death is still being treated as unexplained, according to police.
Police officers have been stationed outside her bungalow in West End around-the-clock since they entered her home amid fears for her welfare and door-to-door inquiries have been conducted.
Neighbour James Stewart said police had interviewed him on Sunday but would give nothing away about how Ms Temple might have died.
Theories are circulating the the village, where Ms Temple was understood to have been the oldest resident and Mr Stewart said: “We asked the police point blank and they wouldn’t tell us what has happened.
“They just said once they had the post mortem there was reason to look into it more.
“We are hearing rumours but we won’t believe anything until we have something official.”
Mr Stewart said Ms Temple remained active until a few months before her death, and could often be seen boarding the bus to Glenrothes.
His wife Margaret said: “She was a really lovely woman, she used to go the church but she had stopped because she wasn’t fit for it.
“Up until recently she used to walk down to the shop for her groceries.”
Police confirmed inquiries continued into Ms Temple’s death and they were still treating it as unexplained.
A 35-year-old man was arrested then released in connection with an assault in the West End area on Saturday but Police Scotland stressed this was not in connection with Ms Temple’s death.
Earlier this week forensic specialists had been seen scouring Ms Temple’s house for evidence.
It is understood police went to her home after concerns were raised and her body was found inside.
People living nearby said there had been police activity in the street since October 30.
A police spokesman said: “A 97-year-old woman was found dead in Kinglassie, Fife, around 11.10am on Friday, October 25.
“Her death is being treated as unexplained pending further inquiries.”
