A man has been charged in connection with a road accident which resulted in the deaths of a Glenrothes couple four months ago.
Police confirmed yesterday that a 20-year-old would be the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal following the crash which claimed the lives of pedestrians Harry and Shirley Taggerty.
He is expected to appear in court at a later date.
Mr Taggerty,61, a retired engineer and his 58-year-old wife, Â a retired drama teacher at Pitteuchar East Primary School, were struck by a car while they were walking close to Riverside Park on the A911 Leslie Road on the morning of July 13.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital having suffered minor injuries.
In the wake of the double fatality, police launched a wide reaching appeal to motorists who had been in the area at the time to come forward.
An appeal to the public for any dash-cam footage from the scene was also issued.
Yesterday, a spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with this and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
In the days following the tragedy hundreds of people took to social medial to pay tribute to the couple who were well known and respected throughout Glenrothes.
Mrs Taggerty had retired just months earlier after a career teaching primary school children at schools in Glenrothes and across the region.
In a tragic coincidence, Mr Taggerty’s death came nearly 40 years after his own father, Harry snr, was also killed while attempting to cross South Parks Road in Glenrothes in 1980.
