A Dunfermline driver who caused an accident in which a cyclist was seriously injured has been banned from the roads.
Lee Renwick, who did not have a licence, then drove off leaving the man injured at the scene.
Renwick, 49, of Bute Crescent, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on March 1 in Lorimer Gardens and Woodmill Road, he drove a car carelessly, failed to keep a proper lookout, entered the carriageway when it was unsafe to do so and caused his vehicle to collide with a cyclist to his severe injury.
He also admitted failing to stop after the collision.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said that at 5.30pm Renwick pulled out of the junction and his car collided with another car and with the cyclist.
The injured man was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy and required surgery to have a plate inserted to a broken wrist. He also sustained cuts and bruises to his chin, which required stitches.
Solicitor Gwenn Haggerty said her client was unemployed and on benefits.
“A friend had asked him to walk her dogs,” she said.
“He was on his way to do this and had the dogs in the car when it happened. He accepts he then left the scene, having panicked.”
Sheriff James MacDonald said: “You chose to drive away from the scene of an accident when a member of the public had been injured.
“You shouldn’t have been behind the wheel in the first place because you don’t have a licence.”
He fined Renwick ÂŁ300 and banned him from driving for nine months.
