A man was taken to hospital following a disturbance in Markinch on Friday evening.
The 24-year-old was taken to the Victoria Hospital, in Kirkcaldy.
Emergency services were called to Balbirnie Street at around 8.40pm to respond to the incident which involved a group of people.
Police have launched an investigation to establish events.
A police spokeswoman said: "Around 8.40pm on Friday, December 20, officers were called to Balbirnie Street, Markinch following a disturbance involving a number of people.
"Emergency services attended and a 24-year-old man was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident."
