Police have reassured the public in Glenrothes that the discovery of a large pool of blood and a weapon in a street on Boxing Day is not a criminal matter.
Officers issued an urgent appeal for information after a dog walker spotted blood, a weapon – believed to be a knife – and alcohol containers just off Foxton Drive at around 10.20am.
A spokesman for Police Scotland has now confirmed that the incident related to a medical matter rather than any criminality, and thanked members of the public for their assistance in responding to their appeal.
The incident had sparked fears that someone may have been assaulted and, given the volume of blood involved, the victim could have sustained a significant injury or at least required some form of medical attention.
