A man was taken to hospital after armed police swooped on a property in Cowdenbeath.
Police and negotiators spent almost five hours on Boxing Day outside a house in Craigbeath Court.
During the incident they dispelled rumours they were dealing with a hostage situation and said there was no risk to the public.
However, there was a heavy police and emergency services presence in the residential street throughout the evening until the 52-year-old man was taken out of the house.
Neighbours said they saw armed officers, police dogs and that people had been warned to avoid the area.
Officers were drafted in at around 7pm and were stood down around 11.30pm.
The Scottish Ambulance Service’s incident response unit was also called in.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Officers were called around 7pm on Thursday, December 26 to a report of concern for person in a property in Craigbeath Court, Cowdenbeath.
“Local officers, public order officers and negotiators attended and around 11.30pm the 52 year-old man was taken to hospital for assessment.
During the incident a Fife police spokesman said: “The incident is contained and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
“Online posts about this being a hostage situation are inaccurate.”
“Officers remain in attendance and we would like to thank local residents for their patience as we work to bring this to a safe conclusion.”
An update was provided later, which said: “This incident has been concluded around 11.50pm.
“A man has been taken to hospital.
“Our thanks again to local residents.”
