Both men who were believed to be in the car which crashed on the M90 and caused the death of another man have now been found by police.
Officers launched a manhunt earlier this week after revealing that two occupants of the silver Renault Grand Scenic involved in Sunday night’s accident had apparently fled the scene, leaving another male front seat passenger with serious injuries.
He later died in Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital and Police Scotland revealed on Thursday afternoon that enquiries to formally identify the man who passed away are still ongoing.
However, after one of the men was traced safe and well on Wednesday following a helicopter search above the Kelty and Blairadam Forest area, police have now confirmed the second man has also now been traced.
Both men are understood to be assisting police with their ongoing investigation into the circumstances behind the crash, although Police Scotland have yet to say whether any charges might be brought.
Officers had urged people living and working in the area around the M90 between junction four and five to check their outbuildings as they were concerned for the men’s welfare.
The crash happened at around 11.05pm on Sunday night when the Scenic struck the central reservation around one-and-a-half miles north of junction four at Kelty.
A Seat Leon car, which was also travelling northbound, then hit the Renault, and emergency services closed the road in both directions for around seven hours.
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: “We can confirm that both men who were being treated as missing persons following the fatal crash on the M90 near Kelty shortly after 11pm on Sunday night (5th) have now been identified and traced.
“Thanks to everyone who shared our appeals or contacted us with information.
“Enquiries continue to formally identify the man who sadly died in the incident, along with the continuing investigation into the crash itself.
“If you have any information that could help us, please call us on 101, our reference is incident 3379 of January 5.”
