Scrambler bikes riders who churned up a well-loved Fife park and put users at risk have been urged to think about the consequences.
Employees and regular visitors at Lochore Meadows Country Park were furious to find grass torn up in several areas of the popular four-star destination.
The incident, involving three motorbikes, has been reported to police.
Management at the park issued a plea on social media to those responsible for the vandalism and hazardous riding.
It said: “Have you considered for just one second that the park you are damaging for your own gratification is very highly regarded by the 820,000 people who visit it every year?
“Many visit every day and generations before them have done the same.”
The park hosts numerous festivals and events, including national sporting events.
Its display area, verges on the main access road and overspill car parks were badly damaged.
The post stated the park was in use 24 hours a day by people including families, dog walkers and people with disabilities and had thriving wildlife.
It said: “And you seem hell bent on diminishing that which they hold dear and place not only yourselves but other park users in jeopardy.”
It also said that a lot of hard work went into maintaining the park and employees who live locally had heard the bikes ripping up their place of work.
Park manager Iain Laing said he had tried to appeal to the perpetrators’ better nature and to warn them of the consequences if someone was hurt as a result of their irresponsible behaviour.
He said: “The grass will recover but we can really do without this sort of thing.
“It doesn’t portray the park in a good light when people come along and find it damaged like this.
“This is not the place for this type of activity.”
