A man who filmed himself raping a woman as she slept has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.
Kevin Kinnell carried out the attack at a flat in Cowdenbeath in May last year.
The 33-year-old was only interrupted when an alarm from a mobile phone went off.
A relative of the woman later became aware of the footage before Kinnell was arrested.
Kinnell returned to the High Court in Glasgow yesterday having earlier pled guilty to a rape charge.
Lord Mulholland told him: “You raped her while she was asleep. I have seen the footage – your conduct was disgraceful and disturbing.
“It ended up in the hands of her family, which must have been humiliating, but I do not hold you responsible for that.”
The judge said the jail term would have been six years, but for the guilty plea.
The High Court in Glasgow had previously heard the woman had been drinking for several hours when she arrived at the house, where she continued drinking and taking cocaine with Kinnell.
At about 2am, she decided to go to sleep and woke to find Kinnell raping her.
She then had consensual sex with him, later finding out about the mobile phone footage, which was shown to court.
The clip of the attack was played during the hearing last month when the woman could be seen lying on a bed.
Prosecutor Stephen McCloy said: “She is visibly in a deep sleep and does not move.”
He said during the assault Kinnell moved the phone to film the woman’s face and it is “clear that she is in a deep sleep and snoring”.
The woman wakes up when the phone alarm goes off.
The woman found out about the recording after a copy was passed to a family member and Mr McCloy said Kinnell told a witness he had “videoed himself having sex with (the woman) while she was asleep”.
Kinnell, of Lochgelly, also carried out other indecent acts.
Stephen O’Rourke, QC, said Kinnell now believes his life is “worthless”.
He told the court: “He has struggled to come to terms with this and is greatly ashamed at his conduct.
“He feels like his life is worthless.”
