Dismay for volunteers as vandals target Fife Ecology Centre yet again

Vandals broke the window at the centre
Vandals broke the window at the centre

Vandals have struck once again at Fife Ecology Centre leaving staff and volunteers dismayed.

Windows were smashed, a bird hide damaged and a polytunnel slashed in the latest of a string of incidents of vandalism at the popular facility near Kinghorn.

The latest incident was discovered by volunteers when they arrived on Monday to open up and is thought to have been caused sometime over the weekend.

A spokesman for the centre, which relies on charity funding and donations to survive, said the centre had now handed over to police, footage from the recently installed CCTV cameras that were installed due to repeated vandalism at the centre.

They said: “This is what we came in to yesterday at the Centre – a smashed window, anti-social behaviour in the bird hide and more slashes to the polytunnel.

“As a small charity we can’t stress enough that we don’t have funds to continually replace and repair items.

“This is not the first instance of vandalism and as a result of this rise in antisocial behaviour we applied for funding for CCTV and were fortunate to get some.

“The CCTV was installed last week so we have footage of who did this and the police are now involved.

“The CCTV is all over the site so we can see and record any anti-social activity at all times.”

Ecology staff have now appealed to anyone who may have seen those responsible or has  information regarding the damage to contact them via the centre’s website at www.theecologycentre.org
