Dozens of jobs could be coming to Dunfermline after fast food giant McDonald’s revealed plans for another drive-thru restaurant in Fife.
More than 65 jobs are anticipated if the proposed development alongside the Tesco Extra in Duloch is given the green light, with the company aiming to have its latest Fife outlet – the third in Dunfermline – open by 2021.
The site for the drive-thru restaurant off Turnstone Road is part of the Tesco store’s existing car park, and has been made available after the supermarket determined parts of the car park were underused and surplus to requirements.
It will become the latest addition to the Duloch Park District Centre, around 3.5km east of the town centre, which has become a popular attraction for shoppers .
A spokesperson for McDonald’s said plans are at an early stage but confirmed the company hopes work can start soon.
“The design and layout of the proposal has been reviewed and amended to ensure that it is appropriate in the area,” the spokesperson explained.
“Natural and neutral colours and materials will be used on the building and throughout the scheme to ensure the site integrates easily with the surrounding commercial setting.
“The site represents an appropriate location for a drive-thru restaurant, which will be well placed to offer refreshments to passing customers and those in the surrounding area.”
According to the plans, McDonald’s is looking to create a two-storey restaurant with an outdoor play frame, similar to many of its other recent developments in the likes of Glenrothes and Leven.
The company recently opened its second outlet in Glenrothes at the busy Bankhead roundabout off the A92, while its first Leven branch opened its doors in Riverside Road.
Skills and training opportunities will be made available to people in the local community, as well as those from further afield perhaps seeking employment, and staff are given the opportunity to gain naturally recognised qualifications in hospitality, literacy and numeracy.
The company has also pledged to employ local contractors to maintain and manage both hard and landscaped areas on a regular basis.
