Fife Council captures brazen fly tipper dumping van-loads of waste outside Kirkcaldy homes

Brazen fly tippers have been caught on camera illegally dumping waste in broad daylight in a residential area in Fife.

A hidden Fife Council security camera snapped the van owner red-handed as he reversed into a lane yards from people’s homes in Kirkcaldy last week before dropping a large pile of builder’s rubble and other waste.

The extent of the recent fly tipping at Chapel Home Farm in Kirkcaldy.

The incident took place at 9.51am on Friday in the Chapel Home Farm area of Kirkcaldy.

It’s the latest in a string of illegal dumpings to have blighted the area recently which, at times, has become so bad it has blocked off access to some resident’s homes.

Builders rubble, industrial waste, scrap tyres and even an old trailer have been fly tipped in the area, leaving beleaguered residents desperate for the culprits to be caught.

“It’s totally disgusting and whoever is responsible needs to be stopped,” said one resident.

“They don’t even get out of their vans they just back in and tip it off the back and leave it for us to live with.”

The scourge of illegal dumping in the area has now become so bad the council, which has been repeatedly called upon to tackle the scourge, has now shared the photograph in a bid to catch the culprits.

Councillor Ross Vettraino, convener of the environmental and protective services committee, branded the tipping “environmental vandalism at its very worst”.

He added: “The culprits are irresponsible, who don’t care about the environment or the effect that their actions may have on those with whom they share the environment and whose actions must not to be tolerated under any circumstances.”

Dawn Jamieson, team manager, said: “There’s no excuse for fly-tipping, which is a blatant disregard of the law and of our outdoor environment.

“No-one wants to see rubbish dumped and it has a direct impact on the condition of our roads, parks, wildlife and communities.

“Anyone caught disposing of their waste illegally will receive a £200 fixed penalty notice.  Major offenders may be referred directly to the Procurator Fiscal and could incur fines of up to £40,000.
