The 2016 London Marathon on Sunday will be a career milestone for two Fife athletes at opposite ends of the performance athletics pathway.
For Derek Rae from Kirkcaldy and Fife AC, it will be the second successive year he has worn Great Britain colours in this prestigious event, while for young Callum Sloan from Dunfermline it will be his second year competing in the London Mini Wheelchair marathon.
Derek set a career best marathon time last year in London of 2.40.40 which resulted in him being included early this year on the long list of GB athletes for the Paralympic Games in Rio.
Coaches have high hopes for him in Brazil, and there are similar high hopes for 13-year-old wheelchair racer Callum, who will be competing for the first time in a new racing wheelchair funded by the Celtic Foundation and the Russell Hogg Trust.
Callum attracted sponsors for his mini marathon push to raise funds for Disability Sport Fife.
Richard Brickley MBE, from Disability Sport Fife, said: “The whole of the disability sports movement is behind these two fine ambassadors for local and national disability sport.”
