The Byre Theatre has called off all shows and events scheduled until the end of May.
It announced the action as one of a number of steps it is taking to minimise the spread of Covid-19 and help protect the community.
Among the shows the St Andrews theatre was due to stage were Arabella Weir’s tour of Does My Mum Loom Big in This? and the Scottish Community Drama Association’s One Act Festival of One Act Drama.
The building and the cafe remain open but the theatre said: “The Byre is part of the University of St Andrews and whilst the university is not preparing to close, in the current circumstances it is common sense for us to plan carefully for what may lie ahead for our community-facing services.”
Classes at the university have been cancelled for the remainder of the semester as it switches to remote learning only.
Thousands of theatre tickets had already been booked and are to be refunded.
