All Fife College campuses are to be temporarily closed to all students from Friday March 20 at 6pm.
The move in response to coronavirus concerns comes just hours after the institution told its 22,000 students that all campuses would be shut as a precaution to safeguard communities.
The college has campuses in Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline, Glenrothes and Leven, and Fife College chiefs say the health and wellbeing of its students is paramount.
A spokesperson said: “Please use this week to speak with your lecturer/named contact, who will advise you on how you can continue your learning at home.
“All practical work, including student placements, will be rescheduled for when the college reopens and extra study sessions will be put in place.
“In the meantime there are lots of ways that you can keep up with your studies and college staff will continue to support you online and by telephone.
“The FAQs page provides general information on travel and self-isolation, health and hygiene, along with additional guidance for students, and staff.”
St Andrews University cancelled all classes at the weekend and has moved to remote learning for the rest of the semester.
