It might be eight months away, but in Dunfermline plans are already under way to light up Christmas.
The City of Dunfermline area committee has agreed to allocate £30,000 from the local community planning budget to provide lights for the High Street and surrounding streets, and a Christmas tree over the festive period.
Councillors heard the town has historically enjoyed a good display of Christmas and winter lights, encouraging people to visit and spend money locally rather than travelling to other major Scottish cities.
The proposal for 2016 is to extend the current contract for the same lights in the same locations as previous years to keep the costs as low as possible.
The money will cover the cost of lighting throughout the centre, including installation and maintenance work.
It is hoped some additional features can be added in areas not previously featured in the winter lighting display once exact prices are known.
Committee chairwoman Helen Law clarified that this would be the final year of a Dunfermline contract and next year there would be a Fife-wide contract for the lighting displays.
“This is why we are suggesting this for the final year, to go with what we have and hopefully get a really good deal after that.”
Councillors approved the plan.
