A Glenrothes woman has expressed her fears people’s lives are being put at risk as GPs and pharmacies struggle to cope with demand.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told how she and her husband, both of whom are deemed high risk patients, were unable to access Lloyds Pharmacy in Glenwood to collect essential heart medication because of the number of people gathered outside in a group.
Like many other outlets, Lloyds is only allowing two people into pharmacies at a time to curb the spread of coronavirus, but the patient was shocked to see a queue of more than 20 people standing outside on Thursday afternoon.
“There’s no social distancing and no consideration for high risk individuals who need life essential medications,” the woman said.
“I’ve tried to phone the chemist and phone is continually engaged. I’ve been trying since 1.50pm today and called 198 times since 1.50pm.
“It’s now 3.39pm and we are still unable to get my husbands medications and have no idea how to either.”
Lloyds has appealed for people who do not need urgent medication not to attend, and has thanked people for their “patience and understanding during these difficult times”.
