Owners of Fife Zoo near Ladybank have issued an urgent appeal for food to help feed the animals during the current crisis.
Dubbed “the best little zoo in Scotland”, the facility – which also plays host to a popular soft play centre for children – has been forced to close.
It has issued a plea to members of the public for help, particularly restaurant owners who may have food which otherwise might go to waste.
A spokesperson said: “We are so sorry for all the restaurants, pubs, cafés and other leisure facilities having to close like ourselves.
“For all of those closing or anyone that will have food stock you’re unable to use, or food you’re are willing to donate, please could you donate them to our animals at Fife Zoo.
“If you are able to donate food from the list below for our animals, please could you email info@fifezoo.co.uk or direct message us on social media.
“We would like to say a massive thank you to the local community who have continued to support us in such hard times.”
Animal food the zoo is struggling to purchase for the animals includes rocket, watercress, Chinese leaf, chicory (white or red), little gem lettuce, romaine/cos lettuce, baby sweet corn, turkey mince, sweet potatoes, courgette, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, any root vegetables, eggs, and fresh corn on the cob.
