NHS Fife chief executive Carol Potter has revealed she was “brought to tears” by Thursday night’s emotional ‘Clap for Carers’ campaign.
Thousands of people across Fife took to their front doors, back doors, balconies and gardens to show their support for all those people doing their bit in the fight against coronavirus – in particular the brave doctors and nurses on the frontline.
The Clap for Carers campaign, which started online, was staged because “during these unprecedented times they need to know we are grateful”, according to the organisers.
In a social media post, Ms Potter said: “Brought to tears by all the clapping & cheering this evening.
“My heart goes out to each and every one of you in health & care across Fife.
“You’re all amazing.”

And the chief executive was not alone, with communities across the kingdom all taking part.
Depute Provost Julie Ford was delighted to see the response.
“I thought the plea to #clapforNHS would fall on silent ears, but I was absolutely wrong,” she said.
“It was fantastic to step outside my front door tonight and join so many neighbours.
“A little bit of appreciation for those who are literally saving lives right now can go a long way.”
