Dog walkers across Fife have been urged to pick up their pets’ poo after an increase in polluted pavements.
Designated dog bins are not being emptied as frequently and there is a marked rise in the amount of mess being left on streets and footpaths.
Tay Bridgehead councillor Jonny Tepp urged walkers to carry extra bags and take any waste home.
“The council is doing its best in trying circumstances but some bins are overflowing,” the Liberal Democrat councillor said.
“People need to act responsibly and if there is a poo there it needs to be picked up.
“If someone has not been responsible, those of us who are not too squeamish can pick it up and take it home to put in the bin.
“It can be double bagged and carried. It’s not difficult.”
Dog mess can also be disposed of in any public bin if dog bins are not available.
Mr Tepp added: “A little bit of common sense and thinking about your fellow humans who also want to enjoy a walk would go a long way in these trying times.”
