A Fife schoolgirl has raised more than £1,000 for her local foodbank by spreading some hope with painted rainbows.
Children across the country have been painting rainbows to give people something to smile about while lockdown continues during the coronavirus pandemic.
Maci Fotheringham, 11, found her rainbows were in demand after a local police constable asked for one of her paintings to put in the window of his police car in exchange for a donation to Benarty Foodbank.
Since then Maci, who lives in Lochore, has raised more than £1,000 through a Crowdfunding site and cash donations.
Her dad James, 53, said: “Obviously, due to lockdown, it’s difficult to get paint now but Gordon Mackie, who does a lot for the community, donated some paint.”
To help Maci keep up with demand for her pictures, The Sign Co. in Kirkcaldy stepped in to print copies for free.
“We were able to step up production,” added James.
Maci initially set a £200 fundraising goal but decided to keep going after smashing the target.
Overwhelmed by the response, she said: “I can’t thank everyone enough for the amazing amount of money you have all donated towards our local foodbank.”
James said a street collection for the foodbank, which is based in Crosshill Business Centre, would take place on three consecutive days starting on Tuesday April 28.
Items left outside in the Benarty and Lochgelly areas will be collected, with local firm Charlie Brown’s Driveways Landscapes and plasterer Peter McGuire providing vehicles.
