A rapist is back behind bars after failing to tell police about a new girlfriend – for a second time.
Anthony Gibson breached the terms of a court order designed to stop him reoffending.
He was jailed for five years and eight months in 2010 for raping a 16-year-old girl in Edinburgh, leaving her pregnant.
In 2016, he was given a five-year sexual offences prevention order for sending inappropriate messages to a woman in Edinburgh.
A condition of the order is that he must inform police of any new relationship he has with a woman.
Gibson was jailed for 12 months at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in January last year.
He admitted breaching the order when he was living in Randolph Park, Glenrothes, in November 2018.
The court heard he formed a relationship with a woman he met on a dating site, but did not tell the police offender management unit about it.
Police spoke to the female and she said she had found out about Gibson’s background by doing an internet search.
Despite being aware of his rape conviction, she continued the relationship.
Gibson, 32, has now admitted breaching that order for a second time with a different woman.
He appeared via videolink from HMP Addiewell at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
Liz Ross, prosecuting, said police went to a female’s home near Lanark on December 3 last year.
The woman told them she had been seeing Gibson for two months. This was confirmed by her parents.
Defence agent David Storrie admitted his client “ought to have known better” this time.
The lawyer said: “He had secured gainful employment, was working all the hours under the sun and didn’t notify the offenders management unit about this relationship.
“The female has been in contact with my office and it’s her wish that the relationship continues when he is released.”
Sheriff Scott Pattison jailed Gibson, who also admitted driving while disqualified, for 14 months.
He was banned from driving for two years.
