Police are hunting a knifeman after a man was stabbed in a violent attack outside a Fife block of flats.
Emergency services were scrambled to reports of a disturbance in Cowdenbeath on Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses said a man suffered head injuries following the assault at the town’s South Street.
On Sunday evening, police said they were following a positive line of inquiry.
The street was locked down for several hours shortly after 4pm. Police quizzed onlookers and carried out door-to-door checks.
Investigators have asked anyone with any information on the incident to come forward.
One member of the public said they saw people arguing and shouting before a fight broke out.
“I first heard people shouting and as went to the window to see what was going on I saw at least two men and woman involved in a scuffle,” the witness said.
“I only heard afterwards that one of the men is thought to have been stabbed.”
Anothor South Street resident, who asked not to be identified, said the attack was the latest in a string of incidents in the area in recent months.
“South Street has become a bit of a nightmare and it’s a shame for the many good people who live here to have such frightening and serious issues as this happening in broad daylight right outside our doors.”
Following the incident the injured man was taken to Victoria Hospital but released following treatment.
A spokesman for Police Scotland, said: “Police were called around 4.10pm yesterday (Saturday, April, 25) to a report of a disturbance in South Street, Cowdenbeath.
“A 26-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, and was later released following treatment.
“Officers are currently following a positive line of enquiry and urge anyone with information about this incident to get in contact via 101, quoting reference number 2691 of 25/04.”
