A package which was suspected of containing chemicals was destroyed by emergency services personnel in Glenrothes.
The alarm was raised following the delivery of a parcel to a house in Tiel Path, in the Woodside area of the town.
It is understood the householder smelled what they believed to be a chemical and suffered a reaction.
Four people were checked by paramedics but did not require any treatment.
Firefighters, police and paramedics rushed to the property shortly after 11am and the road was closed while the package was removed and destroyed.
No one was hurt and police said there was no threat to the wider public.
Witnesses reported seeing a heavy presence of emergency services vehicles in the area.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 11.05am on Thursday, April 30 we received a report of a possible chemical incident inside a property on Tiel Path, Glenrothes.
“Emergency services attended.
“The package was removed and destroyed.
“No-one was injured and there was no threat to the wider public.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We were alerted at 11.04am on Thursday, April 30 to reports of a householder feeling unwell at a property on Tiel Path, Glenrothes.
“Firefighters attended at the scene alongside partners and four people were checked by paramedics but did not require any treatment.”
