A Fife MSP has launched a new social media campaign sharing pictures designed by local children in support of key workers helping the fight against Covid-19.

Jenny Gilruth, SNP MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes, is asking parents across the region to email pictures of their children’s creative feats which will enable her team to create a special ‘thank you’ graphic aimed at capturing the positivity that exists for key workers throughout the kingdom.

The initiative follows the success of the ‘Rainbow Windows’ campaign, which has seen kids all over the country painting and designing rainbows on the inside of the windows of their homes.

Ms Gilruth’s idea to collate tributes from children across the constituency was inspired by her young constituent, Finlay Barratt, from Markinch, who received national recognition on TV for his construction of a LEGO rainbow.

Seven-year-old Finlay and his two brothers, Noah and Alfie, also put together an artistic window display to pay tribute to NHS Fife health and social care workers, emergency service workers and all of those engaged on the frontline as key workers in tackling the coronavirus in Scotland.

“From Glenrothes to Leven to Markinch, it’s clear we have a very talented group of youngsters in Mid Fife and Glenrothes,” Ms Gilruth said.

“I want to thank everyone who has emailed in with pictures of their children’s touching tributes over the past few days.

“If you haven’t already been in touch to share your child’s efforts, please email them to me at jenny.gilruth.msp@parliament.scot and my team will include your photo in a ‘thank you’ graphic.

“Any child whose picture is submitted will receive a thank you letter from me for their support of our key workers at this time, and for sticking to the government’s ‘stay at home’ guidelines.

“I know these tributes mean a lot to those on the frontline of the pandemic, and thank everyone for their continued efforts to rally around our brilliant keyworkers.”
