Burntisland Fair 2020 will not take place this year, in line with government advice about avoiding large social gatherings during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fife Council and members of the Scottish Section of the Showmen’s Guild, who attend the Burntisland Fair, have agreed to cancel this year’s event.
The fair, which normally runs for nearly three months over the summer, has had to be shelved for public health reasons.
A spokesperson for Fife Council said: “The council appreciates that Burntisland Fair is an extremely popular event and that this will be disappointing for many, but not surprising in the circumstances, with all mass gatherings having been cancelled.
“The safety and wellbeing of our local communities, visitors, traders and staff is always our top concern.”
The decision comes after the famous Kirkcaldy Links Market, another hugely important time for the Showmen’s Guild, had to be cancelled last month.
