A bomb squad was called to a Cupar street after a device was dug up in a garden.
The Royal Logistics Corps Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was dispatched to Kinloss Drive on Thursday morning.
A householder in the quiet residential area found the suspect device and raised the alarm at around 10.40am.
The area was cordoned off by police and neighbours were asked to remain indoors until the device was removed by the experts.
A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland was made aware of suspected ordnance found in a garden on Kinloss Drive in Cupar around 10.40am on Thursday, May 7.
“EOD attended and the items have now been safely removed.
“The area was cordoned off briefly as a precaution.
