Car loads of visitors converged on a popular Fife tourist attraction despite the lockdown, prompting fears of an increased risk of coronavirus spreading.
Management at the historic Falkland Estate have been forced to temporarily close the car park to visitors to reduce the risk of the virus being brought into the village.
The move comes after large numbers of people visited Falkland Palace and its estate.
Following discussions between Falkland stewardship and locals, the decision has been taken to close the stables car park at the site to try to reduce traffic entering the village.
Joe Fitzpatrick, chairman of the Stewardship Trust, said: ‘This is a decision taken by the two principal estate bodies in a spirit of partnership with the community council following concerns about the volume of traffic coming into the estate over the past few days, via the village.
“We are still in lockdown, yet some car owners would appear to be taking advantage of the recent good weather to drive to Falkland Estate.
“We appreciate that people may be feeling a bit stir crazy but the traffic volumes in recent days have prompted us to take action.”
Mr Fitzpatrick has stressed Falkland Estate remains open to the public.
“We only ask that visitors show respect for each other by maintaining social distancing guidelines and that dog owners keep their pets on a leash as the farm is in the middle of lambing and calving at this time.
“We will monitor and review this arrangement which will started at the weekend.”
