Emergency supplies of bottled water has been distributed to the most vulnerable in Fife as communities across the region continue to receive discoloured water for a third day.
People in Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Methil and Lochgelly are among those to have reported brown water running from their taps since Friday.
Scottish Water say the problem is due to sediment in the water caused increased public usage during the dry weather.
Drivers worked through the night to ensure bottled water supplies were delivered to those most in need, including the elderly and those who rely on a safe water supply for medical issues, as work to clear the problem continues.
The company had initially advised those experiencing problems to run cold water taps for up to two hours to help clear the discolouration but have now urged people not to leave taps running.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water on Monday morning, said: “Customers may be experiencing discoloured water or intermittent supply issues at the moment as a result of high demand during this hot weather spell.
“We have been monitoring our network and there are signs that this is settling and improving.
“For some customers, due to their location from our treatment works this may take more time to settle, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“During this time please do not leave your water taps running to check if your water runs clear.
“We will update our web page with more information as soon as we can.
