Police hunting a potential rapist who attacked a woman in Dunfermline have appealed for the public's help a week on.
A man pushed a 25-year-old woman to the ground in Pittencrieff Park on Sunday, May 24, but ran away after she fought him off.
Detectives investigating the assault, which they said was committed with intent to rape, revealed on Sunday they believe the assailant's hand was hurt during the incident.
They have urged the public to report anyone with such an injury who they suspect could be responsible.
Detective Inspector Kelly McEwan, of Fife Public Protection Unit, said: "Thankfully the victim was able to fend the suspect off before she was potentially seriously hurt and she may have injured the suspect's hand in the process.
"I would encourage anyone that may know of someone with a recent hand injury who they have concerns about to contact us."
She also said that high visibility patrols had been conducted in the area in an attempt to reassure the public and to speak to potential witnesses.
The woman, who escaped serious injury but was extremely shaken, was attacked after being followed as she walked into the park.
The suspect came from Pittencrieff Street and ran off towards the peacock sanctuary.
He was reckoned to be 30 to 40 years old and was said to be of average build, between 5ft 7in and 5ft 9in tall with short, dark hair. He was wearing dark-framed round glasses, dark clothing and dark running shoes.
Anyone with information should contact police by phoning 101 and quoting incident number 1541 or May 24 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
