Fife Council is making preparations to reopen its six remaining closed recycling centres later this month.
The Cowdenbeath, Dalgety Bay, Cupar, Pittenweem, Methil and Ladybank are now expected to reopen on Monday, June 15.
It follows the success of new social distancing measures and a pre-booking drop off system put into operation at the four main centres at Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline, Glenrothes, Lochgelly and St Andrews when they were reopened to the public earlier this week.
Pressure has been mounting on the council to reopen the remaining sites after the enforced nine-week closure due to the coronavirus crisis amid concerns over increased instances of fly tipping across the kingdom.
Glenrothes SNP councillor, Ross Vettraino, convener of the environment and protective services committee, praised members of the public for abiding by the rules and not turning up without a booking, in vans or trailers or with bulky waste.
He said: “The centres which were re-opened were those which presented the least challenges relative to ‘social distancing’ and traffic management.
“Based on the experience, the council can now look towards re-opening some of the other centres and I am optimistic that others will be re-opened on Monday June 15.”
“I would like to acknowledge the huge contribution that the community has made towards ensuring that the recycling centres were re-opened safely, thereby restoring an element of the waste management services in Fife, which is valued by local communities.”
