Three more Fife recycling centres are to open from Monday.
The Dalgety Bay, Pittenweem and Methil centres will be bookable from Thursday by logging on to www.fife.gov.uk/recyclingcentres
Centres in Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, St Andrews and Lochgelly are already open and are available by appointment only.
Larger landfill items will be accepted at all eight locations from Monday as long as people can dispose of them unaided.
Until now, only materials that can go into kerbside bins have been accepted.
Fife Council said the re-opened sites were those that could operate safely within covid-19 restrictions.
Robin Baird, chief operating officer with Fife Resource Solutions, which runs recycling centres on behalf of the council, said: “Thanks to you and the success of the booking system, more Fife recycling centres will reopen from June 15 and you can take larger landfill items as long as you can dispose of them unaided.
“I’d like to thank Fifers for their patience as our recycling centres safely reopen.
“We are really grateful to local communities for the way things are working so far.
“The booking system is working well and people are getting through our sites quickly, whilst social distancing and safely disposing of waste.
“I urge Fifers to keep going in this way and, hopefully, we can continue to avoid long queues and any issues as our centres reopen safely for everyone.”
Local people have been urged to only book one visit per week for each household as duplicates will be cancelled.
The booking system has allocated times to make sure visitors social distance and so that sites and surrounding roads are not overwhelmed by large numbers of customers arriving at once.
SNP councillor Ross Vettraino, convener of the council’s environment and protective services committee, said: “The council is accepting materials that typically go into your kerbside bins (except food waste) – landfill, green garden waste, paper and cardboard and cans and plastics.
“The council is pleased to say that larger landfill items are now being accepted, as long as you can dispose of these unaided.”
