Armed police swooped on a Fife village on Saturday after reports a firearm was discharged in a public park.
Officers, including an armed response unit, were called to Pittenweem after possible shots were heard at New Grange Park at around 10.50am.
Concerned locals said police were seen searching the park for some time afterwards, although nobody was found in the area.
One source suggested a man had been carrying out target practice.
Work to identify the man seen at the scene and to establish the full circumstances is continuing.
A police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland received a report of a possible firearm being discharged at a park off New Grange Crescent, in Pittenweem, around 10.50am on Saturday June 13.
“Officers, including specialist resources, attended with nobody identified in the area.
“Nobody has been injured and enquiries are currently ongoing to identify the man and establish the full circumstances.
“Anyone with information can contact police on 101, quoting incident 1296 of June 13.”
